Fun Car Fridays: 1990s Bentley Tubo R
As part of my research process I spend a lot of time on car auction sites looking at listings. I want to highlight some of the ones that I think are interesting and showcase good value. This week it was a 1991 Bentley Turbo R
Personally I have always been a big fan on 1990s cars, probably because those were the first cars I saw growing up. The Bentley of that time shared a lot of its looks and body with the Rolls Royce, and both have now fallen from their heights. Being a luxury car, maintenance is expensive, newer alternatives were made, and a lot of these cars are now being frequently sold for sub $25,000.
This particular example crossed the auction block for just $16,000 - an amazing deal in my eyes. While the car is not 100% perfect - there is an issue with one of the windows, the aftermarket alarm does not work as well as it should, and it is a rather high mileage example at around 117,000 miles on the clock, this is still a deal that was hard to pass up on.
When you compare for what else you can get in the market for the same price, you are getting a lot of car. This is a massive and comfortable sedan with a huge trunk, powerful 8 cylinder engine that produces a ton of torque, and what I consider fairly timeless styling. In my earlier post I talked about how for $15,000 you can buy a 1 year old Nissan Sentra, personally I would take the risk and buy the Bentley and be proactive about repairs and hope gas prices keep falling.
I look forward to sharing my top pick with you next week, but in the mean time check out the listing and see what you missed: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1991-bentley-turbo-r-4/
